No more than two out of many dozens of celebrities have been discourteous or demanding,” says Pat Bourdic, assistant general manager at Vero Beach’s Doubletree Guest Suites Resort, where she has worked since 1992.
“More often than not, they’re nicer than you’d expect a regular guest to be.”
Celebrities stay at the Doubletree and its sister hotel, the Palm Court, in Vero Beach for a variety of reasons. Some of them are signing books at the Vero Beach Book Center, addressing the Indian River Literary Society or performing at the Riverside Theater. Others are here for sports – the Philadelphia Eagles trained at Dodgertown one summer and Japanese star Nomo and other Dodgers often stay at the Doubletree, especially when they have family visiting. Barbara Mandrell comes to shoot skeet with the DuPonts, who live in John’s Island. “She’s so petite, you can hardly picture her with a shotgun,” says Pat.
