Jammin’ With The Cocontheads

There was a ’70s rock-and-roll group called the Average White Band, which featured a British singer named Hamish Stewart, but here’s the real thing:  An American white reggae band called the Coconutheads that’s anything but average.  They play in area clubs and restaurants and at Treasure Coast and Palm Beach festivals and have made more than one recording, with lots of plans for the New Year.

The group’s founder/keyboard player/lead singer/songwriter/sometime drummer/Vero Beach resident and self-proclaimed king, Greg Istock, has been performing music since he was 10.  All kinds of music, from country to Top 40, on all sorts of instruments, from drums to keyboard to bass and guitar.  “Next will be the clarinet,” he predicts.  Self-taught, the head Head recognizes from experience that “One person has to be in charge.  If you have four people, they won’t agree, and you’ll never get anything done.
