“Clouds of Light”

Miami Beach native Mary Garrish—or should we say “Dr. Mary Garrish”?—is the featured artist at J.M. Stringer Gallery this month. When asked about leaving a career in surgery to become a full-time painter, Garrish responds, “I was pulled to art, not from medicine.” Her primary interest is in plein air landscapes and other representational art. She has engaged in intense study, including workshops with many of the great landscape artists of this era. She is
a member of New York City’s Salmagundi Club.

“Artist Estates”

Findlay Galleries is extending its exhibition of works from the estates of artists whom the galleries, located in both New York City and Palm Beach, represented during their lifetimes. “Coastal Currents”

Two sea-inspired artists are featured this summer at Gallery 14: watercolorist Sarah Eden Houglum and sculptor Sandy Bachmann. The summer show will also highlight the watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media, collage, photography, digital, sculpture, glass, ceramic, and jewelry art by the gallery’s eight artist-owners, including Dorothy Napp Schindel, whose work is seen here, as well as multiple represented artists. “Chromatic Phrases”

Recent abstract paintings by Jill Nathanson currently grace the walls of VBMA’s Schumann and Titelman Galleries. The title “Chromatic Phrases” draws on a musical analogy to refer to the unfolding visual experience created by Nathanson’s works; the viewer’s immediate visual response may shift toward a gradual recognition of more subtle optical and spatial effects. Nathanson continues to be influenced by her study of Color Field painting in the 1960s and ’70s.
