“Miss Robin” has a winning way with children, especially those who have a fear of the water. For close to 30 years she has spent her days teaching the young and not-so-young how to swim, sharing the joy she feels while in the water.
Little Kaiden’s face lights up the minute he sees Robin Wilson, arms outstretched, inviting him to come with her into the pool. For the tiny toddler who received a new heart last December, the time he spends in the water with the popular swim instructor is not only fun, it’s therapeutic; and the swimming skills he is learning are invaluable.
For over 28 years “Miss Robin,” her skin bronzed by the sun, has been teaching the young and not-so-young how to swim. Her specialty is working with children 14 months to three years of age who are afraid of the water. Like a pied piper, she leads her small charges into the pool, assuring them they can put their trust in her.
“At the very beginning I give them a promise that I will always hold them tight and never let go. I also tell them that I never, ever, break a promise. If it does get to a point that they get so upset they start screaming, I say, “Do you remember Miss Robin’s promise? They look me in the eye and nod their heads.”
