From High School To High Drama

The 1998 production of “The King and I” was presented in the recently renovated Guild Theatre.

Probably no organization better demonstrates the character of Vero Beach than the Vero Beach Theatre Guild.

Born in 1958, when the baby boom was slowly drawing to a close, the Guild entered the world with much enthusiasm and a charming innocence, spawned by the Vero Beach Business & Professional Women’s Club. The women sought out local talent and, on Oct. 14, 1958,  the Guild received its charter as a non-profit Florida organization.

Throughout the ’60s, plays were staged in the old Junior High School on 19th Street, and the Guild enjoyed a happy, though hectic, childhood. In garages all over town, men and women gathered to create stage sets, while sewing machines hummed in countless living rooms, fashioning colorful costumes.
