Syngenta Crop Protection’s renovated main building features a new second floor, updated color scheme and doubled workspace. Brought up to current hurricane code, the enlarged and redesigned structure suffered only slight damage from hurricanes Frances and Jeanne.
Carol Pettice, a retired secretary and receptionist from Syngenta Crop Protection, remembers when she first noticed a growing public awareness of her workplace. People started inquiring at the visitor’s entrance of the beautiful new building, asking if it was a retirement community or a recreation facility. “People hardly noticed us before.”
In 2003 the dramatic $5.2 million commercial transformation of Syngenta’s Vero Beach research facility earned the company, architect and general contractor the county’s Appreciation Award for the best renovation/ reconstruction of a large building. Built originally in 1963, the Syngenta Research Center previously featured a modest design and straightforward landscaping. The tan, one- story Center could be overlooked by busy travelers along 58th Avenue north of the Ryanwood shopping center.
