The July 30 game between the Devil Rays and the Jupiter Hammerheads turned into “Piper Appreciation Night,” a Dodgertown tribute to the aircraft manufacturer. After 50 years in Vero Beach, Piper will announce shortly whether it plans to enlarge its present facility to incorporate a new line of small jets or move to another city. There was an ironic twist to the event since the Los Angeles Dodgers have already announced that their 2008 spring training program will be their last in Vero Beach.
