As the dawn broke on Vero’s South Beach one morning last February the sun’s rays revealed an artist at his easel–a painter whose mutton-chop sideburns and broad-brimmed hat gave him a distinctive, 19th-century appearance.

This man was nationally acclaimed artist John Phillip Osborne, a dedicated painter and teacher whose primary goal is “to capture the light on the canvas.” Placing an emphasis on how objects in nature are seen in various degrees of sunlight, his paintings, which he describes as “small moments of nature,” convey a direct study of the natural environment in all its mysterious, atmospheric moods.
