
Gattle’s, located in The Village Shops of Indian River Shores, carries on a century-old tradition. Henrietta Gattle first sold fine linens 100 years ago in Cincinnati, Ohio.
One hundred years ago a woman named Henrietta Gattle had an idea.
Fond of fine linens and knowing others appreciated them as well, the German-born Cincinnati homemaker decided she would start her own business.
To test the waters, she began by going door to door offering her favorites – French and Italian lace curtains, hemstitched napkins and table linens – from her well-stocked wagon. She was a one-woman store on wheels.
That entreprenurial endeavor took gumption and grit. Fortunately, Henrietta was blessed with both. The combination of her exquisite wares and winning ways had customers eagerly awaiting her arrival at their house. They purchased everything she had and clamored for more.
