Take A Dive Into Beauty

For a client whose home overlooks the Indian River Lagoon, architect Peter Moor designed a vanishing-edge pool, also called an infinity pool, which runs parallel to the river.

When Gillian Callaghan and her husband first looked around the four-bedroom house for sale, they liked the location and layout. What they didn’t like was the fact that there wasn’t a swimming pool. Since the two of them and their three children are avid swimmers, the Callaghans decided to go on their house-hunting way. Yet for some reason, the couple from Wellesley, Massachusetts returned to take a second look, and then a third. “There was something about this house that kept us coming back. It has a good soul, we felt comfortable in it,” Gillian says.

The house also had a backyard. However, before making an offer, they wanted to make sure that after meeting required setbacks, there was enough space for an in-ground pool. There was, and Gillian had an idea of what she wanted theirs to look like. “I would go on the Internet and spend hours looking at pictures of pools and spas,” she says, scrolling through a series of images on her iPad. “Since so many of our windows look out over the whole backyard, we wanted the pool to be really interesting, to take center stage. One of the pictures I really liked actually ended up being the inspiration for our design.”
