For the past several months Dwayne Tallman has been busy searching through scrapbooks and making notes in preparation for the Republican Women Aware (RWA) 25th anniversary celebration. For the immediate Past President and organizer of this month’s silver salute, poring over pages of photographs and seeing the past come alive again has been a joy.

It’s also been a reminder of the club’s rich history.

January 1978: Vero Beach was most decidedly a Republican town. With close to 1,000 members, Republican Women of Indian River Federated was recognized as one of the largest and most active clubs in the country. Meetings were standing room only, the place to be seen and heard. Yet for some, the meeting places west of town posed a problem.
