It’s not every day you can visit an art gallery and stroll beyond the exhibition space into a working studio and see the artists who created the paintings and sculptures engrossed in their latest project. But then, not every gallery is like Tiger Lily Art Studios and Gallery where professional artists Glenda Taylor, Sharon Sexton, Julia Carter, Shotsi Cain Lajoie, Travis Blanton and Cristina Abizaid delight in creating two- and three-dimensional expressions of the way they see the world. Whether realistic or fanciful, their original works of art are as individual and intriguing as they are.Â
It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since Tiger Lily opened its doors on 14th Avenue. On December 2, 2006 to be exact. At the time few artists were willing to take the leap and set up shop in what was viewed as a dated, non-descript area of town. That soon changed. Today there are a dozen or more galleries and design studios located in a vibrant art district in the heart of Historic Downtown Vero Beach.
Tiger Lily actually got its start 25 years ago when Taylor and Sexton rented a small commercial space on Beachland Boulevard so they could paint and sculpt without distraction or interruption. There were no hard and fast rules. Hours were flexible. It was their go-to creative place.Â
