For 30 years, Eve Johnston Siebert kept her secret. A founding member of the Vero Beach Theatre Guild, she impressed everyone with her enthusiasm for backstage work and at various times served as stage manager, costume designer and wardrobe mistress.

Yet one thing Eve never seemed interested in was appearing on the stage – unlike some Guild members, who participated in backstage activities so they could have their moment of glory in front of the footlights.

It wasn’t until a few years before her death in 1991 that Eve’s secret was revealed. Her co-workers were stunned to learn that she had once appeared before the kind of audiences other Guild performers could only dream about.

Back in the 1920s, Eve had been that icon of Jazz Age glamour, a Ziegfeld Girl.
