The children know that homework comes first at the Dasie Hope Center, then they can play at the computers, games or have a reading session.

Verna Wright knows how important it is to have hope. For years her mother, Dasie Bridgewater, dispensed an abundance of it along with the melons and tomatoes she sold from her stand on County Road 510 in Wabasso.

With her sunny attitude and contagious smile, she had every customer young, old and in between, walking away from “Dasie’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetables” with more than just a package of fresh produce.

When her mother passed away two and a half years ago, Verna saw some of the hope in a community where she grew up pass away as well. In her heart she knew something had to be done. She knew her mother’s faith in the goodness of the human spirit must continue to spread.
