We’ve all heard about “Man of the Year” and “Woman of the Year.” Why not plant of the year? Or, as it is more correctly known, “Florida Plants of the Year” (FPOY).

This program was launched in 1998 by the Florida Nurserymen & Growers Association (FNGA). Officially started in 1952 and now headquartered in Orlando, FNGA has over 2,300 members and is the second largest organization of its kind in the U.S., with California holding the number one position.

The mission of the FPOY program is to identify and promote the use of superior, but under-utilized, Florida ornamental plants. The promotion is geared to the production, sale and use of the selected varieties.
