A good gardener revels in the beauty of flowers but, at the same time, is well aware that that beauty is fleeting. Of course it can be preserved on film, but the most beautiful preservation is done by the botanical illustrator. I recently had the good fortune to spend five days in a botanical watercolor workshop.
The workshop was held at the Keswick Orient-Express Hotel just outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. These workshops were initiated in 1996 by Dr. Shirley Sherwood, the wife of Simon Sherwood, president of Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises. Since then, over 35 workshops have been held at Orient-Express hotels worldwide.
