Let’s Dance

Isabel uses a fence as a prop to develop a fluid, free pose that has no specific technical term.

With graceful precision, Isabel Power leaps, glides and twirls, making the quick, intricate steps look oh, so easy. They’re not. The Vero Beach native has trained for years to get to where she is today – a professional dancer, choreographer and teacher who performs in shows across the country and on the high seas.

Yet, with multiple bookings that keep her on the go, Isabel enjoyed taking time out to teach master dance classes at Riverside Children’s Theatre this spring. “I’ve known Adam [Schnell] for years, and last spring I let him know I was going to be home for a little while between contracts. The timing was perfect. He was going to be away for two weeks, so I was able to sub for him. It went so well that he asked me to come back again this year,” Isabel says.

The Ballet Vero Beach artistic director was more than pleased that Isabel was available. “The thing I love about Isabel is that her experience shows kids there are no short cuts in dance. She’s worked hard and sacrificed a lot to get where she is,” says Adam, who appreciates that Isabel passes that work ethic on to students. “Whether you are pursuing a career in ballet or a career in commercial dance like Isabel has done, you simply can’t fake your way into dance.”
