While Michael “Mike” Mersky may be stepping down as head of Saint Edward’s School at the end of the current school year, you can be sure he’s not slowing down, coasting toward his last day. It’s not in his DNA.

Since he first took over the helm of the college preparatory school 10 years ago, Mersky has been hands-on, interacting daily with students, faculty, trustees and parents to ensure that pre-kindergarten through high school students receive the best education and lifelong interpersonal skills possible.

As a result, there is a sense of expectancy felt the minute you arrive at the 23-acre campus on south A1A, where young children and teenagers spend most of their day. Whether seated in a structured classroom, gathered informally in small groups around a patio table or competing on a sports field, they exhibit a desire to reach their full potential.

There’s also a sense of stability. With enrollment at what Mersky calls
“the sweet spot of around 600” and a $14 million endowment, Saint Edward’s is on sound financial footing.
