The newly widened 250-foot seawall provides a peaceful waterside perch for fishing or wildlife watching.
Michael and Sandy Mandel moved to Vero Beach entirely by accident — though it turned out to be a fortuitous one.
“We came to Vero quite haphazardly,” Michael Mandel shares. “We had purchased a Mainship trawler from the factory in St. Augustine and decided to keep it in Fort Lauderdale for the winter before heading north to New York. Heading south into Fort Pierce, we hit a log in the river and had to have the boat hauled.
“Having nothing else to do while the repairs were being made, we rented a car and drove north, where we immediately fell in love with Vero Beach. Twelve properties followed, including our first home, a three-bedroom oceanfront condo in Sea Oaks.”
The Mandels have two sons: Glenn, 24, lives in Cleveland and Ben, 22, in New Jersey. Though their boys are grown and gone, Michael and Sandy still share their home with a four-legged fur child named Scout, their beloved 9-year-old Boston terrier.
