It’s All In The Details

Modern melds with traditional in the kitchen design, a collaboration of the architect, interior designer, owner and internationally known kitchen designer Mick De Giulio.

For a couple from the Midwest, having a home where they could escape from the hectic pace of work-related demands was a dream come true. Here, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the cacophony of big city life is left far behind; there are no executive meetings, phones ringing or planes to catch. Here they can breathe.

An architectural and interior design team the couple had worked with in the past delivered the privacy and serenity they sought. The two-story, West Indies-style family residence that was three years in the making features design details worthy of a standing ovation.

And the applause begins on arrival. The owners wanted the home and gardens to reveal themselves quietly, so instead of driving up to the entrance, cars are parked in a court between two garages, each with a guest suite above. From there visitors walk up a few steps into the courtyard and pool area. It’s like passing through a portal into a tropical paradise. One can’t help but stop, inhale the sea-scented air and smile.

Architect Rustem Kupi describes it best. “The whole premise is for guests to enter and go through an allée of trees, a natural forest of sorts, so they feel as though they’ve landed on a secluded, private paradise or a South Pacific island.”
