A Cultural Touchstone For The Community

“Artreach” is the Vero Beach Museum of Art’s concept of “outreach.” This effort – sometimes a push of programs into the community and other times an initiative that pulls the public into the museum – is a core philosophy. Indeed for the past 30 years, the museum has garnered accolades as the premier regional visual arts center. Yet from the beginning, the leadership, staff and volunteers have also focused on cultural enrichment in service to the public.

As such, the museum brings the creation of art to children in their classrooms and to the bedside of Hospice patients. It develops artistic concepts and strategies to help youngsters increase vocabulary and expand reading comprehension. It enables senior citizens and troubled teens to forge a bond through art. And it provides Alzheimer’s patients precious time when they can gaze at a priceless painting and enjoy a moment of beauty no matter how fleeting.

Through “artreach” the Museum of Art awakens creativity, eases pain, enlivens movement, fosters talent, unlocks communication barriers and promotes learning for the young and the old. It does this and much more, but it doesn’t act alone. It extends its reach by successfully partnering with numerous community entities to fulfill its mission of artistic and cultural inclusion, enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Indian River County.
