Soaring temperatures, high humidity, endless sunny days and tropical nights – that’s Vero Beach in the summer. Time to dress down, load up with sunscreen, and be thankful we live in a time when air conditioning is standard. One sure way to cool off in the hot summertime that is as traditional as a dip in the surf or a backyard swimming pool is to sip an icy drink. Some cool drinks for sticky, hot days include iced versions of hot drinks, such as tea and coffee.

Then there are frozen summer cocktails, fruity slushes, frothy smoothies, exhilarating coolers, and other icy sparkling thirst quenchers – all meant to cool us down.

The equipment needed for the full array of icy summer drinks includes a blender, a cocktail shaker, tall glasses and appropriate cocktail glasses. Don’t forget a nice assortment of plastic glasses if you are planning to be poolside. For ingredients, be sure to take advantage of fresh seasonal fruit and local citrus, and have plenty of ice on hand.
