The balance and symmetry of the home’s floor plan make it a traditional style. At the back of the home, a covered veranda provides a place for friends and family to gather overlooking the pool and golf course.

Inspiration can come when it’s least expected. For Colleen Liebert and her Orchid Island winter home, it came from a rug in a catalog. Even though that was several years before she and husband Dennis bought the house, the rug became the springboard for the vibrant hues that color her world.

“I wanted the house to be cheerful and to feel good about it every day,” Colleen says. “I wanted to make it a happy place where you felt comfortable. It’s probably a little brighter than a lot of houses.”

Colleen knew what she wanted. She just needed some direction.

For designer Lisa Sutherland of the Sutherland Design Group in Vero, the biggest challenge was finding enough bright colors for her client.

“A lot of design now is monochromatic; the trend is toward earth tones,” Sutherland explains. “We had to customize a lot of the paint and the fabrics.”
