Honore McNamee and Joan Rieck are all smiles as they welcome visitors to the Manatee Observation and Education Center in downtown Fort Pierce. As seasoned greeters, the two volunteers are eager to tell everyone about the wildlife found in and around the waters of nearby Moore’s Creek and the Indian River Lagoon.
Whether you choose to stroll along the covered walkway, climb the observation tower or meander through the colorful butterfly garden, every location at the center offers amazing views. Equally amazing is what you will find inside the Exhibit Hall. Here, educational displays, interactive exhibits and an aquarium with live freshwater and marine animals tell all about the ecosystems that manatees and other creatures call home. There are so many “ah-hah” moments that you can’t help walking away with a greater appreciation of the natural wonders that surround us.
