The Balkan nation of Bulgaria is probably not high on most Americans' list of travel destinations, but when Vero Beach Mayor Tom White found himself presented with the opportunity to go there, he could not resist. 

Tom White's father was Hungarian so at least he had some familiarity with the Balkan landscape, site of much tragedy over the past 0 years. But what would compel him to travel there?
