Moor, Baker & Associates made sure there were plenty of outdoor gathering and dining spaces; interior designer Rod Mickley added weather-resistant furnishings and fabrics. The result is laid-back comfort with a postcard-perfect view.
Imagine what it would be like to wake up every morning to the sight of sun-kissed waves breaking on the sand where tiny terns scurry along in search of tasty morsels.
That was the dream of a couple and their three young sons — to live near the waves they all love to ride on their surfboards — hoping one day it would become a reality. That day happily arrived 10 years ago when a nearby oceanfront lot suddenly sprouted a “for sale” sign.
They didn’t hesitate to make an offer.
Once the acre-plus property was theirs, the couple contacted family friend Peter Moor of the award-winning architecture firm of Moor, Baker & Associates. A year-and-a-half later they moved into their custom Dutch West Indies three-level estate home featuring six bedrooms, an open living-dining room, library-billiard room, game and exercise rooms, a chef’s-delight kitchen with breakfast nook, butler’s pantry, two offices, outdoor dining and social spaces, and a saltwater infinity pool with separate spa.
The concrete-and-stucco structure, built on 100-plus cement pilings, stands 21 feet above sea level. Thanks to Crestron home technology, it’s a “smart house,” and with Weather Shield impact-rated windows and shutters that are both decorative and functional, it can stand up to the severest of storms.
The five happy surfers have celebrated every sunrise and wave-riding moment ever since.
