Rotary — for 100 years it has been a name synonymous with humanitarian service. Just ask Karl Steene, Doris Sleeger and Charles Sanford what being a member of the international organization means to them, and be prepared to spend a lot of time listening. Their strong commitment to advancing the ideals established in 1905 can be seen in their actions and heard in their words. Whether they’ve been a Rotarian for one year or 20 their enthusiasm is contagious.

It all began when a young Chicago attorney by the name of Paul Harris met with three like-minded businessmen. New to the big city and filled with enthusiasm and a vision, Harris had been disheartened to discover that the corruption so prevalent in politics had spread to the business world. He set out to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he felt in the small towns of his youth, where helping a neighbor in need was an unquestioned part of daily life.
