With the arrival of summer, the climate at Vero Beach Museum of Art is about to change. But it has nothing to do with temperatures hitting 90 degrees under sunny skies, humidity covering the town like a damp beach towel and afternoon downpours racing through our streets. No, the museum’s atmospheric alteration is due to hundreds of children attending Summer Art Camp and permeating its galleries, halls and studios with their energy, laughter, playfulness and imagination.

The museum Summer Art Camp encourages fun and creativity for all ages and all levels of ability and interest, and this year runs from June 13 to July 29. It has built-in flexibility to allow families to take part in the entire seven-week event or just a week or two, so parents can plan vacation getaways and grandparents can accommodate their young visitors’ schedules. Further, optional early drop-off and late pick-up and lunch breaks are available to accommodate working parents.

The camp offers both morning and afternoon sessions and changing weekly themes with age-appropriate artistic activities and modifications on the themes – many of which reflect the museum’s exhibitions. For instance, this year’s major summer exhibition, “Out of this World: The Art and Artists of NASA,” includes over 70 works selected from the NASA art collection at Kennedy Space Center. Campers can expect to explore their art through various “Around the Galaxy” themes and will also have their own special guided tour of the NASA art collection.
