Farmers' markets offer a tasty alternative from more traditional venues.

Against a backdrop of waving palm trees and fresh sea breezes, Terry Bishop takes a break from strolling through the local produce stands to let her granddaughter Kadance pet a friendly labradoodle. Terry, a vegan, comes to the Oceanside Farmers’ Market by Humiston Park every Saturday to buy organic greens. "I want to support our local economy and buy foods that are as fresh as possible, rather than produce that has been shipped from somewhere else and is already more than a week old,” she says. She's also concerned about the growing prevalence of genetically modified foods and their unknown effects on long-term health, so she seeks out organic alternatives for herself and her family.
