Curtain Up For The RCT

Last month, local audiences finally got a chance to see members of the Riverside Children’s Theatre perform their award-winning version of The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.

In January, two student groups from RCT had earned national recognition at the 2012 Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta, which focuses on groups working with school students in musical theater. The local teams won a national “Freddie G” Outstanding Achievement in Dance and a “Freddie G” Outstanding Achievement in Music; RCT student Megan Wild was named a Tech Theater All-Star, and teacher Kevin Quillinan was one of eight educators who will receive an expenses-paid trip to New York this summer to work one-on-one with Broadway professionals.

During the festival, RCT Next Stage, a newly created group for performers under 10, and RCT Pro Stage, featuring performers 10 and up, appeared in separate shows before a panel of theater experts. The 17 kids of Next Stage, ages 7-9, presented selections from Disney’s Aristocats, while the 25 students representing RCT Pro Stage featured songs from The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Jr.
