For year-round residents of Florida, the halcyon days of summer promise less crowded roads, stores and beaches and more daylight hours to enjoy the balmy evening breezes with friends and family. When the heat of the day subsides, it’s the perfect time to gather for an evening of alfresco dining.

Today, more and more restaurants are providing outdoor eating areas but entertaining at home can be equally enjoyable. A porch, a patio, a lanai, a pool deck or just a stretch of grass in the backyard are great places to get together with friends, be it an impromptu gathering or an elegant feast.

To get some insider tips from an expert, we asked Adrienne Drew of Adrienne Drew Catering to share her expertise in planning a stress-free event so your guests aren’t the only ones who enjoy the festivities. Adrienne knows a thing or two about successful party planning.

She has been serving up delicious fare to Indian River County residents and beyond for the last 15 years and often caters outdoor parties at clients’ homes. “I’ve catered a Moroccan-themed outdoor event for 80 guests with jewel-toned décor and belly dancers as well as a carnival party with popcorn, cotton candy and snow-cone machines for a bar mitzvah,” she says.
