Last month Gov. Charlie Crist presented a resolution to Bob Harris recognizing him as the first Floridian to serve as chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Robert R. Harris has been a community leader in Indian River County for the past several decades. Now he is leading the world’s largest body of CPAs. In October, the managing director of Harris, Cotherman, Jones, Price & Associates was elected chairman of the 360,000-member American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Locally, as a board member, Harris has applied his accounting and financial skills to the fiscal issues of such institutions as the Indian River Medical Center, the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Riverside Theatre. As a trusted advisor in his 34-year professional career, he has guided his business clients though recessions, economic crises and bubbles, helping them plan their futures and increase their profitability.

For the next year, as AICPA chairman, he will lead his profession as it grapples with such far-reaching problems as globalization, sustainability, and re-regulation of financial services, while preparing the next generation of young accountants to manage even more complicated issues.
