On August 15, 2009, members of the Gifford Cemetery Association and the community at large gathered to dedicate the imposing new gate that now adorns the entrance to the Gifford Cemetery on 49th Street. The gate is just one of the many accomplishments of the Gifford Cemetery Association, a dedicated group that includes several who are second-generation members. Headed by Clyde Hayes, the association works hard to honor deceased residents by maintaining the beauty and dignity of the cemetery. Other recent additions include a new caretaker, several new headstones, and a new roof for the bathroom building donated by a generous volunteer.
