March 10: The entertaining fundraising event Dancing with Vero's Stars, benefiting the Healthy Start Coalition, returns for the third year to the Saint Edward's School Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts. Proceeds from the event will help programs that provide parents with access to prenatal care services and the support to give their infant the best possible start in life.
The evening begins with a pre-show cocktail reception at 6 p.m. followed by the red carpet at 6:30 p.m. and dance performance at 7:30 p.m. Local stars, including Carl Fetzer, Laura Guttridge, Stacy Miller, Mark Rodolico, Joey Schlitt, Melissa Shine, Susanne Sweeny, Charlotte Terry, Glenn Tremml and Buck Vocelle, are matched with dance instructors Tom Isola, Roger O'Brien, Sandra Redfield, Beth Shestak, Robert Scott, Amy Trammell, Barry Trammell, Karren Walter, Joe Wynes and Danielle Zimmerman. The dancers and their partners train over several months and will perform dances such as the Tango, East Coast Swing, Waltz, Cha Cha and Salsa. Dancers gather community votes prior to the event on the website, through the purchase of tickets and also at the competition. Each dollar raised equals one vote, and judging is based 50 percent on money raised and 50 percent on each contestant's dancing skill. Event co-chairmen are Brenda Lloyd and Joe Robinson.
