The Syntarus was a very fast runner and leaper from Africa. They may have hunted in packs and lived in dry environments similar to today’s savannahs. With four sharp claws, this meat eater had bird-like hollow bones and lived in the Jurassic 200 million years ago.

Visitors to Vero Beach’s McKee Botanical Garden are accustomed to finding mystique and allure in its famous hammock. The garden’s splendors entice walkers to explore jungle pathways or sit beside the gentle pools and waterways that meander through the park. Birds and butterflies, dragonflies and dew-covered spiderwebs catch the eye. Graceful water lilies and imposing vines dazzle and enchant.

The restored Hall of Giants, with its enormous mahogany table, offers a history of the Garden’s beginnings in 1922. The Hall’s displays tell of a unique attraction filled with unexpected plants and animals. Among the first botanical gardens in Florida, the original 80-acre hammock showcased lush vegetation, a sub-tropical ecosystem, and features like the grove of Royal Palms where giant trees delighted visitors.
